Prime Minister Robert Abela has met the winning teams from the Junior Achievement (JA) Malta Finals for this year's youth entrepreneurship programmes.
These winning teams are Simplex from St. Aloysius College Sixth Form, who were titled as the "Company of the Year 2025," and MediMind, who stem from Saint Martin's Institute and won the "Startup Programme."
The Prime Minister met with these young teams as they prepare to head for Athens for their respective "Gen-E" European finals.
Both young companies revolve around the same theme - caring for the elderly in an independent manner that allows them to remain part of their communities. Both companies, Simplex and MediMind, came up with solutions through which elderly or vulnerable people can access their prescribed medicines more safely.
The companies respectively came up with a pill-blister popper and an automated medicine dispenser.
These teams will soon represent Malta in Athens for the upcoming finals; Gen-E is the largest entrepreneurship festival in Europe. For this year, it is being held in Athens, Greece from 1-3 July 2025. The two Maltese teams will compete against representatives from 42 other countries.
This year, more than 250 students from 12 schools and educational institutions participated in JA Malta's programmes this year.
The company programme is for post-secondary students while the start-up programme is for tertiary-level students.
The Minister for Education, Clifton Grima, and the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, both accompanied the Prime Minister in this meeting. In attendance with the students were JA officials, teachers from the respective schools, and the group mentors.
