Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri visited several ongoing infrastructural projects in Victoria, including Triq l-Ewropa, where tarmacking has begun in front of the Sports and Aquatic Pavilion, which is now also in its final stages before it gradually opens for Gozitan sports enthusiasts to enjoy, a government statement said.
Camilleri said that a number of works are currently taking place around the island of Gozo, with a particular focus on Rabat (Victoria), to provide the much-needed upgrades in terms of services.
"On Triq l-Ewropa, in front of the Aquatic and Sports Centre, we carried out a number of service installations related to the centre's use. More than that, we are working on a short-timeframe programme to completely upgrade roads that are most accessed by Gozitans in the heart of Victoria," Camilleri said.
He said that works are also ongoing on two major bypasses, Triq l-Imgħallem and Triq ta' Wara s-Sur, as well as Triq Ġorġ Pisani, to help ease traffic issues in Victoria and provide alternative routes for reaching Marsalforn without having to pass through the town centre.
Camilleri added that in the coming days, roadworks on main roads will be intensified in order to further improve the island's infrastructure and services.
"This commitment is clearly evident, as significant projects are being completed and new ones are beginning at a fast pace, all contributing to a better quality of life for all Gozitans," Camilleri said.
Camilleri also announced the successful completion of works on Triq Santa Dminka in Victoria. The road is now fully finished, asphalted, marked with new road signs, and reopened to traffic.
As planned, Triq Arturo Mercieca has now been closed off so that works can begin there, the statement said.
Meanwhile, work is progressing rapidly on Triq l-Ewropa and the new Ġorġ Pisani Street. These projects not only include new tarmac installation but also essential underground infrastructure upgrades, such as drainage and water supply systems, along with solutions for rainwater management, it said.
Camilleri said that the progress seen on Malta's roads is clear evidence of the government's continued commitment to investing in top-quality infrastructure for the island of Gozo.
"The extensive works happening across Gozo reflect our vision to make positive changes that have a direct impact on the quality of life for all Gozitans. We will continue working tirelessly to ensure Gozo gets the infrastructure it deserves," he said.
The statement said that the Ministry for Gozo and Planning remains committed to continuing investment in further road improvement projects across Gozo, aiming to ensure a safer, more modern, and sustainable environment for everyone.
