A diver is in serious condition after he found difficulty while in the water near Cirkewwa, The Malta Independent is informed.

A police spokesperson told this newspaper that a diver had to be rescued and brought ashore in Cirkewwa at around 9am. 

The diver, who was later identified as a 59-year-old man who lives in Iklin, was rescued by people in the area.

Initial reports that the diver had passed away were off the mark – police said that the diver was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance and is in serious condition. 

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading an inquiry while police investigations are also ongoing.
