Two people have died while swimming in separate incidents, the police said Tuesday.

The police said that at 1am it was informed that a 25-year-old man from Nepal, who resides in Qormi, had been taken to Mater Dei Hospital after he found himself in difficulty while swimming at Exiles, in Sliema.

The man was swimming with some friends who were the first to raise the alarm, helping the man ashore and seeking medical assistance. The man was certified dead in hospital.

This morning, at 7.15am, police assistance was sought when a man was seen unconscious in the sea at Xlendi.

The man, 67, from Munxar, was taken ashore and a medical team certified him dead on site.
