The 2024/25 season has proven to be a landmark year for Neptunes Swimming Club, marked by historic victories, record-breaking performances, and continued excellence both in and out of the pool.
Neptunes etched its name in Maltese swimming history by clinching Malta's first-ever National Short Course Championship in December 2024. Building on this momentum, the club went on to secure the National Long Course Championship in the final weekend of June 2025. These victories bring Neptunes' total national titles to an impressive 11, in addition to the inaugural Short Course Championship, solidifying its status as the most successful swimming club in the country.
The Short Course Championship saw Neptunes swimmers setting multiple Age Group records and achieving a new National Record in the 4x50m Medley Relay. The Long Course Championships proved just as fruitful, with standout swimmer Mya Azzopardi twice breaking a 17-year-old National Record in the 100m freestyle - originally set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Azzopardi also set a new National Record in the 100m backstroke. Teammate Kyle Micallef added to the club's accolades by setting a new National Record in the 50m freestyle.

These extraordinary accomplishments are a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of Neptunes' swimmers. Their relentless commitment continues to foster a strong team spirit and a supportive environment conducive to growth and high performance.
Behind these successes stands a network of support. The club expressed its gratitude to the parents of its athletes, whose volunteer efforts and ongoing encouragement play a crucial role in the team's progress. Thanks were also extended to both the sub-committee and main committee for their strategic direction and unwavering support, which remain vital to the club's sustained momentum.
Neptunes also recognized the essential contribution of its coaching team, including Gail Rizzo, Amy Micallef, Sean Camilleri, and Emilia Galea Testaferrata. These coaches, alongside South African consulting coach Delon Dannhauser, have invested countless hours in planning and executing training strategies that have powered the club's success.
A key driver of Neptunes' recent achievements is the club's access to top-tier training facilities. Alongside its iconic outdoor pool at Balluta Bay, Neptunes has recently expanded operations with a major new indoor facility at Ta' Qali.
In December 2024, Neptunes signed a long-term agreement with the Malta Football Association (MFA) to operate the indoor pool located within the Millennium Stand at Ta' Qali. This partnership represents a significant milestone in Neptunes' mission to enhance the standard of aquatic sports across Malta.

The Ta' Qali facility will become the home base for Neptunes' elite swimming and water polo academies. To ensure optimal training conditions, the club has committed to a substantial investment over the next two years. Planned upgrades include a state-of-the-art HVAC system, new pool tiling, an activity room for dryland training, and underwater cameras with live feed capabilities. The full refurbishment has transformed the complex into one of Malta's premier aquatic training venues.
As Neptunes looks ahead, the club remains focused on nurturing talent, expanding its legacy, and continuing to raise the bar for aquatic sports in Malta.
