Stargate Studios Malta has been nominated for an Emmy Award for its visual effects work on the Black Mirror episode 'USS Callister - Into Infinity', marking a major milestone for the local VFX industry, the company said. The nomination recognises the studio's contribution to the latest season of the internationally acclaimed Netflix series and shines a global spotlight on Malta's growing presence in the high-end visual effects world.

The nominated episode, part of the mind-bending anthology series created by Charlie Brooker, stood out for its intricate digital environments and cutting-edge visual storytelling. Stargate Studios Malta's VFX team, under the direction of VFX Supervisor Jonathan Caruana, was behind the episode's dazzling visuals. The team delivered complex sequences that combined on-set supervision, post-production compositing, and digital effects to help realise the futuristic world of Black Mirror.

In a public announcement celebrating the news, Stargate Studios Malta wrote: "Massive news! We are absolutely chuffed to announce that we're nominated for an Emmy for our work on the mind-bending episode 'USS Callister - Into Infinity'... A huge thank you to our incredible team, led by our talented VFX supervisor Jonathan Caruana who brought the visuals to life."

The company also extended thanks to Black Mirror's creative leads - Charlie Brooker, Josie Henwood, and James MacLachlan - for their continued trust in the studio across multiple seasons. "We're honoured to be recognised for our hard work and dedication. Fingers crossed for the big night!" the statement concluded.

The Emmy Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, are among the most prestigious accolades in the global television industry. Recognising excellence across categories including drama, comedy, documentary, and technical craft, the Emmys are often seen as television's equivalent of the Oscars. For VFX studios, an Emmy nomination signals international respect and serves as a benchmark of artistic and technical achievement.

Stargate Studios Malta was established in 2012 as a partnership between The Bigger Picture and Stargate Studios, a globally recognised visual effects company with credits across major television and film productions. Its Maltese base acts as the European hub of the wider Stargate Studios network, offering top-tier services including digital scanning, on-set VFX supervision, and full post-production capabilities.

Over the past decade, the studio has contributed to a number of internationally produced projects shot in or passing through Malta. However, this Emmy nomination places Stargate Studios Malta in a new league, acknowledging its creative and technical prowess at the highest level.
