McDonald’s and TBWA\ANG redefine the Golden Arches in “It’s in MyHands” campaign

McDonald's Malta has turned a universal, everyday gesture into an unexpectedly emotional piece of branding. In its latest campaign, "It's in MyHands", developed by TBWA\ANG, the iconic Golden Arches are not drawn, printed, or even digitally rendered-they're discovered. Hidden in plain sight, the famous "M" reveals itself in the simple act of holding a phone with two thumbs.

The creative idea is disarmingly simple: when we type, scroll, or tap with both thumbs, our hands naturally form a symmetrical curve. By framing a phone between those two thumbs, the unmistakable outline of McDonald's Golden Arches emerges-not by design, but by behaviour.

"It's a habit we all share," said the campaign team at TBWA\ANG. "When something becomes so automatic that you don't even notice it, it becomes a part of you. That's exactly how we wanted to position McDonald's-no longer just in the app, but in your hands, in your life."

The campaign takes the brand's iconic logo and reimagines it as "My M"-personal, habitual, and entirely user-driven.

With mobile ordering, loyalty rewards, and real-time deals driving engagement, McDonald's has firmly established its presence in the app age. But "It's in MyHands" goes further, making the brand feel not just accessible, but deeply personal.

The OOH visuals feature close-up shots of hands holding a phone, thumbs positioned just so, with the arches subtly highlighted by the natural curvature of fingers. The message? The brand isn't just on your screen-it's in the gesture you make every day, without thinking.

"Looking for insights and human behaviors to connect with your audience, and doing something never seen before by such a huge international brand, is no easy task," said Richard Agius, Executive Creative Director at TBWA\ANG. "But that's where creativity lives: in the human truth. McDonald's lives in your habits, in your routines, and now-quite literally-in your hands."

With just two thumbs and a clever frame, TBWA\ANG has managed to turn an everyday action into a globally recognizable brand moment-possibly creating the most personal "M" in McDonald's history.
