The Malta Chamber of Construction Management (MCCM) welcomes the recent announcement by the Government of Malta regarding the launch of a new diploma course in Construction Management by the University of Malta. This important educational initiative marks a significant step forward in the professionalisation and structured development of the construction sector.

Good to note that originally, the concept to this course was developed in close collaboration between the MCCM and the University of Malta (UOM), mindful of the processes followed by BCA. In fact, this launch of this course was anticipated during the MCCM's membership certificate ceremony held last June, which event was attended by the Hon. Minister Dr. Jonathan Attard, MCCM members and representatives from the wider construction industry.

MCCM has consistently advocated for continuous professional development as a cornerstone of quality and accountability in our sector. MCCM is proud to have supported the design of this diploma course, based on The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) educational framework and which aligns closely with the chamber's vision, for a more structured and competent construction workforce.

MCCM also welcomes the involvement of educational institutions such as the UOM in complementing national efforts to strengthen resources and opportunities for ongoing development within the industry.

During the June ceremony, Minister Attard reaffirmed the Government's commitment to promoting professionalism and building capacity across the sector. He described the active involvement of stakeholders, including MCCM, as a clear indicator of the progress achieved in recent months.

Notably, the Minister also confirmed that discussions regarding the introduction of a legal framework to formally recognise the profession of construction project managers are now at an advanced stage. MCCM views this development as critical to improving standards, strengthening accountability and ensuring long-term sustainability in the built environment.

MCCM reaffirms its position in that the legal recognition of construction project managers would not only validate the expertise of professionals in this field but also pave the way for meaningful reform and safer, more efficient project deliveries.
