On 26 September, Malta welcomed more than forty leading consultants in plastic surgery, dermatology and related specialties from the UK, France, Poland, Italy and the Middle East for the inaugural Skinsurgeon International Laser Masterclass, held at Remedies Clinic, Campus Hub.

Organised by Skinsurgeon in collaboration with Remedies and convened by Professor Ernest Azzopardi, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Laser Specialist and UK Laser Lead for the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the event was designed as an interactive bootcamp, blending scientific learning and clinical demonstrations.

The morning session was officially opened by Clarence Pace (top photo), Chief Government Medical Officer, together with Jonathan Mangion (above), CEO of the AM Mangion Group, both of whom praised Malta's rapid emergence as a hub for advanced medical education and healthcare innovation.

A highlight of the day was the live patient demonstrations, in which Professor Azzopardi (above) showcased advanced laser treatments for atrophic skin, vascular conditions, pigmentation disorders and scarring. For the first time, these procedures were broadcast to delegates using Microsoft HoloLens mixed-reality technology, allowing participants to witness treatments directly through the surgeon's eyes rather than via a traditional camera feed. This immersive, first-person perspective set a new benchmark for medical training in the region.

Beyond the clinical component, the event fostered an atmosphere of open dialogue and collaboration. Delegates engaged in lively discussions around tailoring treatments to different skin types, managing complex cases, and the evolving role of laser technology in both reconstructive and aesthetic medicine. A networking lunch provided opportunities for practitioners to connect with their international peers, exchanging insights and forging professional relationships that will extend beyond the Masterclass itself.

The afternoon sessions continued with further demonstrations and case-based discussions, reinforcing the day's emphasis on patient-centered care, safety, and clinical excellence. As the event concluded, Hon. Amanda Spiteri Grech MP delivered the closing remarks, underlining the importance of international collaboration in strengthening Malta's standing in the global medical sector.

More than a training course, the Masterclass was a celebration of clinical excellence, technological innovation and patient-centered care firmly positioning Malta on the map as a destination for world-leading surgical laser innovation.
