Hamrun Spartans added a golden page to the history books, making a gallant debut in the UEFA Conference League Phase, going down 1‐0 against Jagiellonia in Poland.

The Spartans played the last thirty minutes of the match with ten players when Joseph Mbong received a second book‐ ing.

But Hamrun and coach Giacomo Modica must be proud with what their side did, against better opposition.

Hamrun however reduced this gap playing on a par with their opponents who only managed to take the upper hand in the second half.

The Spartans however showed that with some luck and mor at‐ tention in front of goal, they could have also gained some‐ thing from this match. However Hamrun can now look forward with more confidence to the re‐ maining five matches in the hope of gaining the first points in the League Phase.

Hamrun had a good start miss‐ ing a couple of chances in the opening fifteen minutes.

On 33 minutes Coric tested Abramowicz and five minutes later Jagiellonia had a goal ruled out for offside.

Jagiellonia had a better start in the second half with Bonello making a couple of good saves.

On 57 minutes Jagiellonia scored what proved to be the winner when Hamrun lost a bal in midfield and Imaz beat Bonello from the edge of the area.

Five minutes later a severe blow for Hamrun as Joseph Mbong received a second book‐ ing.

As expected Jagiellonia were now all over the place but Ham‐ run defended well with Polito and goalkeeper in superb form, but still Hamrun had their fair share of scoring opportunities, even appeals for a penalty in the dying minutes of the match.

Hamrun left the field empty handed but with their head held high after an emotional and un‐ forgetable debut.

Hamrun will now entertain Lausanne in their next match at Ta' Qali which will also be a first on Maltese soil.
