Thursday, 16 October 2025, 13:10 Last update: about 10 months ago

The LifeCycle Malta team were received by Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, the President of Malta, at San Anton Palace. The meeting marked an important milestone as the cyclists approach the end of their group training sessions in the run-up to this year's LifeCycle Challenge.

Departing Malta on 13 November, the cyclists will be undertaking ten days of intensive cycling along a 2,000 km route from Petra in Jordan to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Accompanied by a support team, this will mark the expansion of the LifeCycle Challenge to its 56th and 57th countries since 1999 to raise funds in aid of kidney patients.

The President of Malta wished the team well in their ten-day challenge and noted that in more than 25 years the Foundation raised over €4 million in aid of this cause in Malta and Gozo.

LifeCycle Malta Foundation Chairman Alan Curry expressed his appreciation: "We are deeply honoured by Her Excellency's support. Her words of encouragement mean a great deal to us and to the many patients who depend on our work."

The LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation is the only NGO in Malta dedicated entirely to renal health and has raised approximately EUR4 million over its 26 years of operation. Funds raised go towards the Traccia software that matches kidney donors and recipients at Mater Dei Hospital's Renal Unit, supporting renal patients, purchasing equipment, and investing in research in collaboration with the University of Malta Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT).

The 2025 LifeCycle Challenge is supported by the main sponsor Nescafé and other sponsors amongst whom are Hili Ventures, Government of Malta Social Causes Fund, Smart Technologies Ltd, Brown's Pharmacy, M&Z plc, Nuun Hydration, JPA, Laferla Insurance, Valletta Waterfront, Unicare, Mimici Foundation and The Web Ally.
