Foodbank Lifeline Foundation launches the 2025 Reverse Advent Calendar

The true spirit of Christmas lies in giving and this year, Foodbank Lifeline Foundation is once again inviting the general public to turn that spirit into action. The Foundation has officially launched the 2025 Reverse Advent Calendar (RAC), a simple yet powerful initiative that allows people to support families facing temporary crisis.

Just like a traditional advent calendar offers a treat each day in the run-up to Christmas, the Reverse Advent Calendar encourages participants to place one non-perishable food item into a box each day for 24 days. Each completed box becomes a full food pack delivered directly to individuals and families assessed by social workers to be in urgent need.

This year's message, "Delivering H.O.P.E. this Christmas," reflects exactly what these boxes mean: Help, Opportunity, Provision and Empathy.

Since its founding in 2015, Foodbank Lifeline Foundation has remained one of Malta's only foodbanks providing direct food-aid to people experiencing short-term crisis. Supported over the years by its long-standing partners Izola Bank and The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, the Foodbank has served as a lifeline for thousands of households.

Commenting on the launch of this year's advent calendar, The Foundation commented "People often see the food packs, but not the system that quietly supports them. Behind every box is a network of volunteers, partners and operational resources that must be maintained. This Christmas, we want to highlight that keeping this lifeline open is a collective responsibility."

The RAC remains the Foundation's flagship nationwide initiative, a campaign that is tangible, inclusive and deeply community driven. It offers a simple way for anyone in Malta to make a meaningful contribution during the festive season. Families can turn it into a Christmas tradition rooted in generosity, while schools use it as an opportunity to engage students in empathy-building activities. Companies, too, often complement their annual festive events with RAC drives, creating a shared sense of purpose among employees. Individuals who want to give back also find the RAC an easy and accessible way to help.

There are several ways to take part. Participants can create their own traditional box at home, or collect a smaller number of items and drop them off at one of the Foundation's drop off points. Whichever option they choose, each act contributes directly to supporting someone in crisis.

This Christmas, the choices to get involved are endless and the impact of even one box is immeasurable. Help us ensure that no one in Malta goes hungry because of a temporary crisis.
Be someone's lifeline.
