The Civil Protection Department on Wednesday morning rescued a man who ended up in the sea at Grand Harbour.

In a statement on Facebook, the CPD said shortly after 2.30am, the CPD was alerted to a marine rescue involving a foreign national who had ended up in the sea.

Rescuers from Fire Stations 2 and 5 were immediately deployed to the scene. The casualty - the CPD did not give the sex of the person - was safely rescued and taken aboard a CPD RHIB.

"The individual was subsequently transported to Fire Station 5, where an ambulance from Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department was on standby".

The casualty was then transferred to hospital for further medical assessment. No further details are available at this stage, the CPD said.

The Civil Protection Malta reminded the public to exercise extreme caution, particularly in coastal and maritime areas, and to follow all official advisories.

Over the past few days Malta experienced a heavy storm and warnings were issued for people to stay away from the coast.
