The Public Works Department and Infrastructure Malta will be carrying out interventions across several localities following the extensive infrastructural damage caused by Storm Harry, the government has announced.

In a statement, the government said the storm had left severe repercussions nationwide and appealed to local councils to report damage, particularly where there are safety risks, emergency situations, or issues affecting accessibility. Councils have been asked to submit details through a form circulated by the Public Works Department or, in cases of difficulty, to contact the department directly by telephone.

The initiative follows interventions already carried out in a number of coastal areas that sustained significant damage, including Mellieħa, Marsaskala, Xgħajra, Kalkara and Għar Lapsi.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett said that reporting by local councils would help facilitate immediate repairs where necessary. He stated that the government remains committed to supporting workers, families and business owners during times of need, ensuring that no individual is left to shoulder the burden alone.

Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia also thanked local councils and workers assisting with repair efforts, emphasising the importance of acting swiftly and safely for the benefit of communities affected by the storm.

The Public Works Department reiterated its appeal for the public to avoid coastal areas that have been closed off, stressing that these measures are necessary to safeguard public health and safety.
