For the second year running, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO is continuing to bring music education directly into primary schools through targeted, child-focused initiatives.

The project, titled Sounds Like Me, was visited by Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima. The interactive educational programme will tour a number of primary schools across Malta.

Through creative and participatory activities, children are encouraged to use music as a tool to express emotions, better understand mental health, and recognise everyday life situations. The programme aims to show how music can play a supportive role beyond artistic expression.

Minister Owen Bonnici said the project strengthens the link between culture and education, demonstrating how music can be a powerful learning and personal development tool. He noted that initiatives of this kind help children discover their talents, build creativity, confidence, discipline and teamwork.

Minister Clifton Grima highlighted that this is the second year of such initiatives, which align well with the concept of holistic education. He said the collaboration with the Ministry for Culture reflects a strong commitment to promoting creativity among students, while also supporting their mental wellbeing by offering safe ways to express emotions.

The project was developed by the MPO in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of professionals in education, psychology and music, led by artistic director Daniel Cauchi. It introduces children to the orchestra and its instruments, while using music as a practical life tool.

An integral part of the initiative is the website MPOkids.com, an online educational platform designed specifically for children. The website offers videos, quizzes and interactive content related to music and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, encouraging learning beyond the classroom in an accessible and engaging way.
