The Nationalist Party Executive Committee on Saturday approved more candidates for the next general election.
At today's meeting, which took place in Gozo, the following two new candidates were approved:
- Julian Borg for the Sixth Electoral District
- Oliver Cini for the Fifth Electoral District
Julian Borg is an architect who serves as the Nationalist Mayor of Siġġiewi. Oliver Cini, from Luqa, is an engineer working in the maritime energy sector with an international company. Both will be contesting the general election with the PN for the first time.
With the approval of these two new candidates, the number of candidates approved so far to contest the next general election on behalf of the Partit Nazzjonalista has now risen to 27. The process to identify and approve further candidates is ongoing. The PN's team of candidates includes new faces, others who have previously contested elections with the PN, women, young people, as well as a number of Gozitan candidates.
The meeting during which these two new candidates were approved was held this afternoon at the PN Sub-Headquarters in Ta' Sannat. This formed part of a full weekend of activities being organised by the Partit Nazzjonalista in Gozo over the course of this weekend.
In addition to the Executive Committee meeting, the PN Administrative Council also met in Gozo today, discussing a number of agenda items in a setting different from the usual one. Whilst yesterday, also in Ta' Sannat, the Regional Assembly for the Gozo Region was held. Present for these important meetings was Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Borg.
The activities in Gozo will reach their climax tomorrow with the General Council under the theme Dan hu l-Mument, which will convene at 9:30am at the Grand Hotel in Għajnsielem. The General Council will be addressed by several members of the General Council, and will also consider the reports of five Regional Assemblies that were held in recent days in Malta and Gozo. Five Motions will be presented for approval by PN councillors during the General Council.
Following the reply to Councillors' interventions by PN Secretary General Charles Bonello, the address by Deputy Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista Alex Perici Calascione will take place, after which the General Council will conclude with an address by PN Leader Alex Borg.
Following tomorrow's General Council, the annual Ikla tal-Ħbieb will also be held in Gozo - a much-anticipated event among Gozitans and many Maltese at the beginning of each new year. This social event, which will also be attended by the Leader of the PN together with Party officials, has been fully-booked for several weeks. The Ikla tal-Ħbieb in Gozo has been held since 1972, and this coming Sunday's event will be the 55th edition. It is organised by the PN Regional Committee in Gozo.
