Climate Walker Jaydip Lakhankiya is organising a five-day nationwide walk across the Maltese islands before setting off on his transcontinental 12,000km walk to India.

Lakhankiya informed this newsroom that between 6-10 February, he will be walking through all 54 Maltese localities, visit a church in each one, and organise a clean-up as a heartfelt tribute to Malta and its people.

He is inviting everyone to join him in this nationwide walk, commencing next Friday - "even if only for 100 metres." In his invitation to the general public, the Climate Walker stated that "Your presence, no matter how short, will make this historic journey more meaningful."

The Climate Walker told this newsroom in late 2025 that he intends to walk 12,000km from Malta to New Delhi, India to raise awareness for climate change. He will pass through 20 countries over an estimated year and a half, strictly by foot aside from catching two boats to cross over from Malta to Sicily to mainland Italy.

He's also announced that he will leave Malta to commence this mammoth journey on 20 February.

The Climate Walker shared that he will "proudly represent Malta across the globe" throughout his journey.

"I will carry Indian and Maltese national flags throughout the journey as a symbol of unity and deep respect. Wherever possible, I will also visit Indian embassies together with Maltese embassies and Maltese communities because I carry immense respect for this island and for the people who have supported me from the very beginning," the Climate Walker declared.

He is currently based in Malta after studying and attaining a postgraduate diploma here in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, which is why his journey on foot back to his homeland of India is beginning in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

Lakhankiya, 25, had stated that he is using this walk to raise awareness that climate change remains "the biggest threat to Earth" in hopes that his act may inspire the serious change still needed to mitigate climate change's effects.

The Climate Walker expressed his gratitude to the Malta in his written statement, labelling Malta as "the foundation of this mission" and a place that made him more knowledgeable, courageous, and inspired. He also thanked the Maltese people for all the support they have given him so far.

He added that if he ever decides to document this mission by writing a book or creating a documentary, after completing it, "Malta will always be mentioned with the highest respect and gratitude."

With just around three weeks remaining till he departs to Italy, walks the length of it, and then passes through the Balkans, the entire width of the Middle East, Pakistan, and arrives in India, the Climate Walker reiterated that he continues to crowdfund so that he may raise funds for the most basic needs throughout this trip, such as food. He added that "even the price of a coffee can make a real difference."
