A body found at sea in St George's Bay, St Julian's on 18 January has been identified as that of 30-year-old French man Samiel Daroussi, who had earlier been reported missing to the police.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police said that the body, which had been found in an advanced state of decomposition back in January, was identified as Samiel Daroussi, following the completion of all necessary forensic tests.

Daroussi had first been reported missing to the Police on 6 January, prompting initial investigations, before a body was subsequently discovered at sea at St George's Bay.

Police said that after the required examinations and identification procedures were carried out, it was confirmed that the body recovered was that of the missing French national.

The Police added that a magisterial inquiry into the case remains ongoing, while investigations are still underway.
