The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta, Dr Anġlu Farrugia, has departed Malta for Istanbul, Türkiye, where he is leading a parliamentary delegation to the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings. The Assembly is being hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
The 152nd IPU Assembly will bring together parliamentary delegations from across the world for high-level discussions on the theme "Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations." On the margins of the Assembly, the Maltese parliamentary delegation will also attend meetings of the Twelve Plus Group.
During the Assembly, Speaker Farrugia will also chair meetings of the IPU Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law, of which he is President, and will also be participating in meetings of the IPU Task Force on the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine.
Through its participation, the House of Representatives of Malta will continue to contribute actively to parliamentary diplomacy and to international efforts aimed at promoting dialogue, peace, justice and effective multilateral cooperation.
The Speaker-led delegation is composed of Edward Zammit Lewis, Chair of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee, and Robert Cutajar, Opposition Whip. The delegation is accompanied by Mr Ian Bajada.
