Under a Nationalist government, NGOs will not pay VAT and will be getting a 100% refund of the VAT that they have paid, PN leader Alex Borg on Thursday.

Speaking in Zejtun, Borg said that NGOs had expressed concern that they carried out their services from property they rented out. Borg said that a PN government will establish a scheme to help them buy the property they currently occupy.

NGOs are carrying out sterling services for which they should be assisted. In this sense, he said that a PN government will see that they get a full refund of the VAT they have paid and will no longer have to pay this tax.

Borg also referred to the PN's proposal to establish a fuel hub on Hurd's Bank, a proposal which he said had thrown the Labour Party in a panic so much so that they were trying to demean the idea and attempt to tarnish his reputation.

The PN leader said that Prime Minister Robert Abela had admitted to meeting with who he (Abela) described as an oil smuggler, but then failed to seek a police investigation on the matter.

Borg said that he had taken an oath to deny that he had ever met this "oil smuggler", but Abela had admitted that he had met him without seeking to have him investigated by the police.

Speaking on other proposals made by the PN, Borg said the holistic tax reform that the PN is proposing will leave more money in people's pockets.

Borg said that from the first day of the campaign the PN had presented proposals intended to improve the quality of life.

The Labour government thought it would "catch us unprepared" with an early election, but the PN showed immediately that it was ready for the challenge.

The tax reform that the PN presented today is unprecedented, he said. The maximum tax threshold will be raised to €80,000, up from the €60,000 capping that the Nationalist Party had established in 2012 and which was never upped by the Labour government. This means that the maximum tax rate of 35% will only be applied if a worker earns more than €80,000.

This and other measures such as correcting the tax bands when the cost of living adjustment leads to wage increases will mean that people will have more money to spend and will be paying less tax, Borg said.

Borg also referred to economic measures that a new PN government will introduce, which are aimed to open new niches. We want to give our young people a better future, he said.

The party will leave no generation behind, as the measures the PN will introduce if elected will see that each and every sector of society is catered for.

The PN leader said that the time of the Zejtun activity he was supposed to be in a television studio debating political issues with the Prime Minister, but Abela had pulled out of the event. He said that the debate would have served for the two leaders to put forward their ideas and then allow the people to judge.

Borg also referred to other proposals that the PN has made since the start of the campaign, most notably in the health and energy sectors.

The activity was also addressed by candidates who will be contesting on the third electoral district.
