As part of its wider national health policy vision, the Nationalist Party has announced that Selmun Palace and Fort Campbell will be restored and transformed into the Malta National Health Park, creating a flagship public national space that combines health, heritage and quality of life.

For years, Selmun Palace and Fort Campbell have stood as underutilised historic assets despite their extraordinary national significance, environmental value and potential public purpose.

Under the PN's proposal, these sites will no longer remain abandoned symbols of missed opportunity. Instead, they will be restored, protected and returned to the Maltese people through a project that combines heritage preservation with modern public health infrastructure.

As Leader of the Opposition Dr Alex Borg has emphasised, Malta's future must protect both the health of its people and the national assets that define its identity.

Through the Malta National Health Park, the PN is committing itself not only to a new prevention and rehabilitation model, but also to the restoration of two important national sites for public use.

The project includes the rehabilitation of Selmun Palace, the restoration of Fort Campbell, the development of landscaped public spaces, walking trails, outdoor fitness areas, educational facilities and restored heritage environments that will remain accessible to the wider community.

By integrating healthcare innovation with heritage stewardship, this proposal presents a new national model in which public infrastructure serves both present and future generations.

The surrounding natural environment will also play a central role, with open green spaces, seascape access and restorative landscapes forming part of the wider prevention and wellbeing strategy.

This approach ensures that Selmun and Fort Campbell are not treated simply as development sites, but as protected national assets with a renewed public mission.
