Botanica Anima - The Soul of Flowers is a solo exhibition by Vania Goshe taking place at Christine X Art Gallery in Sliema from 5 to 27 June. The exhibition collection explores the inner life of flowers as symbolic vessels of memory, emotion, and spiritual presence. Rooted in the tradition of floriography yet reimagined through a deeply personal and contemporary lens, Goshe's work transforms botanical forms into quiet narrators of the human condition.

In this body of work, flowers are not decorative motifs but sentient symbols as bearers of silence, resilience, devotion, and transformation. Each bloom becomes a threshold between the visible and the invisible, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their inner emotional landscapes. The conceptual foundation of the exhibition, Botanica Anima, derives from the Latin words for plant and soul, emphasising the exhibition's central premise that flowers possess an inner essence mirroring our own. Through layered compositions, nuanced colour harmonies, and a restrained yet expressive painterly language, Goshe reveals flowers as living archives of time, emotion, and spiritual energy. Her florals exist in a suspended space, neither bound to a specific geography nor moment in time, allowing them to function as universal symbols. The absence of narrative excess encourages a meditative viewing experience where stillness becomes a form of dialogue and contemplation.

Born in 1976 in Chirpan, southeast Bulgaria, Vania Goshe received her foundational art education at the School of Art and Music in her hometown under the guidance of artist Edrey Mihaylov (Rocco) and later continuing her artistic development through private mentorships with several established Bulgarian artists including Vladimir Kondarev, Elena Poneva, Muzafer Sabri-Muzo, Veljo Mitev, Ivan Ivanov, and Prof. Georgi Stajkov. She pursued higher studies at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia, earning a degree in TV and Cinema Camera Operation from the Department of Cinema, Television, and Show Business. Following her academic career, Goshe worked as a videographer in television and collaborated with international film companies as a cameraperson. She was also part of the camera team for live productions including Big Brother, VIP Brother, and Star Academy. Alongside her media career, she continued exhibiting and accepting painting commissions, nurturing her passion for fine art. Upon relocating to Malta, Goshe quickly established herself within the local art scene, receiving an Honourable Mention at the Malta Society of Arts Annual Exhibition and Competition.

Working across a variety of mediums, she combines realism with abstract elements to create harmonious and emotionally resonant compositions. Her artistic mission is to offer viewers a momentary escape from the pressures of contemporary life through vibrant colour, evocative imagery, and contemplative storytelling. Malta's rich cultural heritage and Mediterranean landscape have profoundly influenced her practice. The island's golden limestone architecture, shifting sunlight, and ever-changing sea continue to inspire her evolving visual language, allowing her to reinterpret her surroundings through a distinctive and deeply personal lens.
We invite the public to attend the exhibition from 5 to 27 June from Tuesday to Saturday 10am-1pm and 4-7pm at Christine X Art Gallery in 53, Tigne street, c/w Hughes Hallet street, in Sliema.
