Police have confirmed that eight-year-old Khyl Agius Bonavia and Lorraine Bonavia have been found, bringing an end to a weeks-long search that prompted repeated public appeals for information.

In a press statement issued Saturday, the Malta Police Force said the update follows earlier statements in which the public was asked to assist in locating the pair.

"Kindly be informed that Lorraine Bonavia and Khyl Agius Bonavia have been found," the police said in the brief statement.

The force also thanked members of the public for their assistance during the search.

The search began after eight-year-old Khyl Agius Bonavia was reported missing. Police had said he was last seen in the company of Lorraine Bonavia, who was also being sought on the order of a judge in connection with a court judgment.

The police said it appreciated the public's cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation.
