Missio Malta will once again be taking part in the Malta International Food Fest through its Missio SummerFest, between Wednesday 5 and Sunday 9 August, at the Floriana Granaries. During the popular festival, Missio Malta will once again be running the entertainment programme as well as providing information about the missionary work it carries out around the world. Over the weekend, Missio SummerFest will be hosting a Television Marathon, broadcast across all local stations, between 6pm and midnight.
A small act that becomes a great action
"A small act of generosity can make an enormous difference to thousands of families around the world. Every donation, combined with Missio Malta's continued commitment, becomes a whirlwind of change that improves the lives of those most in need of help," said Robert Farrugia, Head of Communications and Fundraising at Missio Malta.
Funds raised during the Malta International Food Fest activities will go towards making a difference in the lives of thousands of families who need help the most. Families like Sunita's, who until recently used to walk kilometres every day, to get clean water for drinking and daily use. Today, thanks to the generosity of the Maltese, a borehole was built close to her community, now providing clean and safe water to all the families around it.
Then there's Sandhya and her three children, who until recently lived in a shelter built of mud and other materials found on the street. Today, through that same generosity and Missio Malta's work, they have a humble but decent and safe home to live in with the dignity they deserve.
And Maleda, a deaf girl who in Ethiopia was facing significant stigma and difficulty accessing education. Today, with the same support, she is receiving an education tailored to her needs at the Co-Action Deaf School, where she is being given the chance to build a future.
Walking challenge
As Missio Malta marks the hundredth anniversary of the founding of World Mission Sunday, to be celebrated later in the year, Missio Malta is launching a challenge to the public to complete a 100km journey, on treadmills that will be set up at the Malta International Food Fest from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 August.
Members of the public will be invited to walk 100 metres for a donation of €5, so that together they can add up to the 100km marking this beautiful milestone. The Malta International Food Fest has pledged that for every euro raised, it will match it with a further euro donation, all of which will go towards Missio Malta's projects.
Television marathon
As in previous years, the same Malta International Food Fest will host an entertainment and information programme about Missio Malta's missionary work. This will be broadcast LIVE on TVM, NET, ONE and Xejk on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, between 6.00pm and midnight.
Throughout the broadcast, everyone watching will have the opportunity to see for themselves how their donation is a powerful force that changes for the better the lives of people like Sunita, Sandhya and Maleda.
With everyone's help, Missio Malta will be able to continue supporting these communities and reach even more people in need.
