Opposition Leader Alex Borg said Gozo has the potential to become a place where young people can build careers, businesses and families, arguing that the island needs policies tailored to its unique realities to support investment and economic growth, the PN said in a statement.
Borg made the remarks during a day of visits to three Gozitan businesses and institutions: elderly care residence Casa Giuseppe in Victoria, custom products manufacturer Customize Nation in Xewkija, and food producer Magro Brothers, where he also met farmers cultivating tomatoes used in the company's production.
During his visit to Casa Giuseppe, Borg met residents and staff, stressing the importance of quality elderly care centred on dignity. He said investment in elderly care also benefits families by providing reassurance while allowing older people to remain within their communities.
At Customize Nation, Borg praised the company's entrepreneurial approach, noting that it designs and manufactures its products in Gozo while serving customers across Malta and Gozo. He said small businesses require fair competition, reliable infrastructure, access to skilled workers and greater confidence to continue investing.
Visiting Magro Brothers' factory and agricultural fields, Borg met workers and farmers and highlighted the importance of manufacturing, exports, agriculture and food security. He described the company as an example of combining tradition with investment, innovation and international markets, adding that Malta should support manufacturers that maintain links with local farmers and livestock breeders.
Borg said the three businesses demonstrated how Gozitan workers' commitment and determination could generate employment opportunities and economic growth.
"As a Gozitan, I do not want Gozo to be a place young people have to leave in order to succeed. We want it to be a place where they can build a career, a business and a family," Borg said, adding that Gozitans were seeking the right conditions for their talent and investment to flourish, rather than special treatment.
Borg was accompanied during the visits by Gozitan Nationalist MPs Beppe Galea and Norma Camilleri.
