Angèle Zammit wrote a condolence message on Facebook after Saturday's homicide to pay tribute to her sister, Charlotte. She wrote that her sister will always be loved, remembered, and missed.

Zammit said that her sister Charlotte never had an easy life and that "she was a victim of so many things, yet she kept trying to move forward."

Zammit said that her sister "was finally on the right track" and was ready to start a new chapter in life, before her untimely passing on Saturday. She said that she is feeling heartbroken that her sister never got the chance to live through this brighter-looking chapter.

"She had paid her bills, was finally on the right track, and was ready to start a new chapter and a new life," she said, "It breaks my heart that she never got the chance to live it. She deserved peace, happiness, and a life free from all the pain she had endured."

On the feast of Santa Marija, Charlotte Zammit, 44, was found dead at a residence in Żabbar on Saturday afternoon. Azzopardi was arrested by police at the scene. Police had reported to the scene after receiving reports of heard gunshots at around 3pm, in Corrado Street, Żabbar.

The police are treating this incident as a homicide.

In her Facebook post, Zammit thanked everyone for the outburst of support, messages, and prayers received by her and their family during this incredibly difficult time.

"May you finally find the peace you deserved," she wrote.

Police said the suspect had previously been the subject of a domestic violence report in 2016. He had subsequently been sentenced to one year in prison.

Another report was filed against the man in 2017, although he was not found guilty in connection with that case.
