Prison van and truck collide in Ħal Far leaving 6 hospitalised

A car crash involving a prison van on Wednesday afternoon has resulted in six persons being hospitalised, a police spokesperson told The Malta Independent.

On Wednesday, at 2:45pm, a Renault Trafic prison van and an Isuzu Elf 250 collided in Triq Ħal Far, Birzebbuga. From the nine people involved in this crash, six were hospitalised.

The prison van was being driven by a 67-year-old man from Birzebbugia, while the Isuzu was being driven by a 46-year-old resident of Żebbuġ.

Inside the prison van were seven passengers, all men. The police could not confirm with this newsroom if any of these passengers were prison inmates or people who work with the Correctional Services Agency.

Among these passengers were five Maltese, one 26-year-old Syrian man, and one 36-year-old man from Niger. From the Maltese, two men were both 45 years old, one was 51, one was 38, and the eldest passenger was 60 years of age.

From everyone involved in this traffic accident, both drivers, one of the two 45-year-old Maltese men, the 51-year-old Maltese man, the 38-year-old Maltese man, and the 26-year-old Syrian were hospitalised. Their condition is currently unknown; however, the spokesperson told this newsroom that none seem to be in critical condition.
