New specialised facilities including a hydropool, jacuzzi, and multisensory pods are being introduced for students at the San Miguel Resource Centre in Pembroke as part of an inclusive education project led by the Foundation for Schools of Tomorrow. The €6 million investment spans an area of 557 square meters and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, allowing students full access starting in the upcoming school year.

During a site visit, Education Minister Byron Camilleri emphasized that true educational inclusion means providing every student with the specific resources they need to learn, develop, and reach their full potential. He noted that this initiative marks the first facility of its kind within a state educational institution, designed specifically around the needs of students with disabilities.

The San Miguel Centre currently provides full-time education to more than 20 children aged 3 to 11 and extends its services to approximately 60 additional students from state, church, and independent schools. The new complex will feature a sensory-hydrotherapy pool and a jacuzzi capable of accommodating up to 16 people simultaneously, alongside six specially equipped sanitary and shower facilities, a first-aid room, storage spaces, and two multipurpose rooms holding up to 30 people each.

Architect Francesca Axisa from the Foundation for Schools of Tomorrow explained that the extension was designed to respect the school's existing architectural character by continuing its signature arches while remaining structurally independent. Connected via a corridor for easy access, the complex also features a separate entrance to allow independent use after school hours.
