The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AiMS) and the Office of the Commissioner for Children (CFC) have issued joint recommendations on appropriate training times for minors involved in organised sport.
Under the proposed guidelines outlined in a statement on Wednesday, children attending compulsory educational institutions should conclude their sporting training sessions by specific times on evenings preceding school days, depending on their age.
Children under six should finish training by 7pm, while those under 11 are recommended to conclude sessions by 8pm. For minors under 16, training should end by 9pm.
The recommendations are aimed at promoting a balance between children's sporting commitments, educational responsibilities, rest and overall wellbeing.
AiMS and the Commissioner for Children said the initiative reflects their shared commitment to safeguarding minors participating in sport, while supporting their development both as young athletes and as students.
The authorities said the measure is intended to ensure that young athletes can pursue sporting excellence without compromising their best interests and holistic development.
