A section of wall has collapsed along Triq il-Marfa in Mellieħa, likely as a result of the heavin rain, prompting intervention by the Civil Protection Department and cleansing teams.
Mellieħa mayor Gabriel Micallef said the affected area was being cleared, while the incident had also been reported to Transport Malta and the Police.
Additional personnel are monitoring the situation on site as the authorities assess the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
Micallef said the local council expected the competent authorities to carry out the necessary remedial works and provide assistance without delay.
He also called for the remaining stretch of the wall to undergo a professional structural inspection to establish whether it remains safe.
Any preventive or remedial works identified as necessary should be carried out as a matter of priority, the mayor said.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of the rest of the wall, particularly following the collapse of part of the structure.
