Fresh from another successful championship campaign, Neptunes WPSC has taken the first major step towards defending its national swimming crown after completing an intensive 10-day training camp in Lloret de Mar, Spain.

The camp brought together 30 swimmers from the club's Performance and Junior Performance Squads under the guidance of Head Coach Gurkan Eroksuz, assisted by coaches Gail Rizzo and Sean Camilleri.

For a club that has claimed the national championship title on 14 occasions, the message remains clear: success is earned through hard work and continuous improvement. The extensive training programme was carefully structured to prepare swimmers physically and mentally for the demanding season ahead.

The daily schedule included morning and afternoon water sessions, complemented by land-based strength and conditioning work. Swimmers focused on building endurance, improving fitness levels and fine-tuning technical aspects of their racing.

Meanwhile, the club ensured that development did not stop at home. Coaches Amy Micallef and Harrison Stevens led a separate training camp at the Neptunes Indoor Pool in Ta' Qali, providing the club's younger swimmers with their own opportunity to prepare for the season.

Club officials highlighted the importance of such camps, not only for physical development but also for strengthening team culture. While swimming is often viewed as an individual sport, the environment created during training camps helps foster friendships, teamwork and a positive competitive spirit that motivates athletes to push themselves further.

Neptunes continues to set the benchmark in Maltese swimming through its sustained investment in athlete development, coaching expertise and structured training opportunities. The club believes that exposing swimmers to intensive training environments is essential in helping them reach their full potential.

Organising overseas camps requires months of preparation and substantial financial commitment. The club therefore expressed its appreciation to VisitMalta, SportMalta and Adalvo for their ongoing support.

Neptunes also stressed the importance of its swimmers acting as ambassadors for both the club and Malta whenever they travel abroad, ensuring they represent the country and its supporting partners with pride, discipline and professionalism.

With the new season now firmly in sight, the reigning champions have sent a strong signal that they have no intention of resting on their achievements and are determined to remain at the summit of Maltese swimming.
