Jurors in the murder trial of Amo Frank Kwaku were taken for site visits on Thursday morning, as proceedings entered their fourth day.
After more than five years since the incident took place, Kwaku is standing trial over the 2021 killing of 23-year-old Isaac Kwabena Kyere in Marsa after a late-night argument between the two men allegedly ended in a fatal stabbing.
He is accused of wilful homicide, unlawful detention accompanied by bodily harm, carrying a weapon while committing a crime against a person, and disobeying police orders while allegedly attempting to evade arrest.
Jurors were taken to the site of the murder, being the bright orange pedestrian bridge in Marsa near Ġerrejja Street.
Kwaku was seen leaving a police vehicle, and then climbing up the steps of the bridge behind Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera.
The indictment alleges that during the night between 10 and 11 June 2021, an argument broke out between Kwaku and Kyere while the pair were at a friend's home in Marsa.
During the compilation of evidence, witnesses claimed that the argument originally began over a bottle of whiskey, before spilling outside into the streets.
One witness said Kyere had at one point picked up a kitchen knife as though threatening his friend, while another described seeing the men fighting in the street before Kyere collapsed.
According to the prosecution, Kwaku was the first to leave the residence, with Kyere following shortly after. The two allegedly ran into each other again close to the pedestrian bridge near Ġerrejja Street.
This is where prosecutors allege Kwaku attacked Kyere with a knife.
Police responding to the scene found Kyere badly wounded, with early reports describing Kyere as lying in a pool of blood.
Kyere was stabbed and cut at least 18 times, with several stab wounds proving fatal, the Attorney General says. The post-mortem also identified defensive injuries which, according to the indictment, Kyere sustained during the attack.
Kwaku was tracked down several hours later at a property in Triq Azzopardi.
According to police evidence reported at the time, he attempted to flee across rooftops before being arrested.
Police also recovered what they believed to be the murder weapon, a knife, beneath a tree in Triq il-Jum.
