Valletta emerged as the biggest winners of Matchday 7 in the VBET Malta Premier 2026/27, securing a valuable 2-0 away victory over Birkirkara to move clear at the top of the standings.

The Citizens scored once in each half to claim all three points and strengthen their position in the title race. The result proved particularly significant as several of their closest challengers dropped points over the weekend.

Floriana missed the opportunity to keep pace with the leaders after being held to a 1-1 draw by Balzan. The Greens had to settle for a point, leaving them on 14 points, level with Marsaxlokk in second place.

Marsaxlokk, meanwhile, returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Żabbar St. Patrick. Two first-half goals proved decisive as Marsaxlokk collected three important points to remain firmly in contention near the top of the table.

Ħamrun Spartans also missed the chance to close the gap on Valletta after drawing 2-2 against Hibernians. The Spartans were forced to be happy with a point following a late equaliser from their opponents, leaving them on 11 points, five behind the leaders, although the title race remains finely balanced.

Elsewhere, Mosta and Birżebbuġa St. Peter's played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Mosta managed to salvage a point despite finishing the match with ten men, while Birżebbuġa continued their search for a first victory in the league phase though gaining their first historic point.

Sliema Wanderers and Gżira United also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Both sides found the net during the opening stages, but neither managed to find a winner, with Gżira claiming a valuable point in their fight to climb the standings.

With the standings remaining competitive and several clubs separated by only a handful of points, Matchday 7 has further intensified the battle at both ends of the table.

Valletta, however, have taken an important step forward, sending a clear message to their rivals as the 2026/27 campaign gathers momentum

'Training is being reflected on the pitch'

-       Warren Said, Assistant Coach Valletta FC

'This is one of the best performances from our side this season. We were very good tactically and we also hit our opponents in the right moment'  These were the first comments uttered by Valletta's assistant coach Warren Said. He continued. 'But now we must immediately concentrate on the next match when on Saturday we meet Sliema Wanderers. Every match is difficult and very challenging.  But the good thing about our side is what we are doing in training is being transmitted onto the playing field.'

'We improved a lot in the second period'                                                 '

-       Paul Zammit, coach B'Kara FC

'We were tactically prepared for every eventuality. I do not want to detract in any way from their merit of this result attained but in the first thirty minutes we didn't do anything.' These were the first comments given by Paul Zammit followiing the Stripes defeat against Valletta. Zammit added. 'We improved a lot and were superior in the remaining time of the match. We have to keep on building the momentum. We are aware that we played a very good side in a difficult league.  This was an important test both individually and also as a group. But there are lessons that we have learnt from this defeat'.

CURIOSITIES

v  The second Valletta goal scored by Petar Sekulovic was his first career one for the league leaders. Incidentally this was the fifth goal scored by a substitute for Valletta, the highest in the Premier League.

v  Marsaxlokk scored 13 goals so far this season , 11 of these were in the first half - with only two in the second forty five minutes.

v  72% of the Malta Premier League matches, a team that suffers first goes on to lose the match. This is an interesting point meaning that few are the teams and matches that mount a reaction after conceding.
