A routine traffic check led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man in St Paul's Bay after officers caught him using his mobile phone while driving.

The incident occurred yesterday morning at around 11:30am when police on patrol along Qawra Road spotted the driver, a resident of Dingli, violating traffic laws. Upon pulling the vehicle over to take down his details, officers noticed the man behaving suspiciously.

A search of the suspect and his vehicle yielded a pouch containing roughly 40 sachets filled with a white substance suspected to be illegal drugs.

The man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court today at approximately 11am before Duty Magistrate Dr Nadine Sant Lia LL.D.
