Anniversary evening celebrates a decade of community growth and sustainable operation

Spinola Terraces celebrated its tenth anniversary on Thursday 8 October with an evening at Carob Tree attended by over 150 guests. Among them were tenants, residents and representatives of St Julian's Parish and the local council, together with the contractors and consultants who helped build the development.

Formerly known as Spinola Park, the development sits beside St Julian's Parish Church and brings together offices, shops, a supermarket, a food court, apartments and a 450-space car park. Over the past decade it has become a daily meeting point for the people who work, live and spend time in the area.

Sustainability has shaped the project from the start, and Spinola Terraces is the only development locally to hold BREEAM In Use certification, an international benchmark that assesses how a building performs in operation. Natural ventilation, water reuse, heat recovery and planted terraces are all part of the design.

The same thinking extends to the neighbourhood around it. Public lifts link Lapsi Street and the car park to the church, pedestrian routes connect the village to the parish, and the Parish Hall forms part of a community offer that also includes childcare, a fitness centre and a children's play area.

On the night, guests were welcomed with a timeline of the project and archive photography while an anniversary film featuring the developers, the parish and local residents played on screens.

In his keynote, Managing Director Mark DeMicoli thanked the founding team, tenants and community partners who have shaped Spinola Terraces over ten years.

We wanted this place to sit comfortably beside the church and the square and give something back to St Julian's. Our BREEAM In Use certification further confirms how well the building is run, and that discipline is now part of how we work, he said.
