Monday, 26 October 2026, 15:00 Last update: about 1 hour ago

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana will be presenting the government's plans for 2027 in the financial exercise known simply as the budget.

This will be the first budget of the new legislature, after the Labour Party won the election last May. Caruana will be delivering it for the sixth time.

The budget's theme, as announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela, is Malta Mieghek (Malta with you).

At 5pm, Minister Caruana will present a copy of Budget 2027 to President Myriam Spiteri Debono. He will then proceed to the Parliament Building at around 5.45pm, ahead of his scheduled speech at 6.30pm.

Following the address, Opposition Leader Alex Borg is expected to give an initial reaction. Afterwards, Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, and Finance Minister Clyde Caruana are also expected to hold a press conference.

The Opposition Leader's official reaction will be in Parliament next week, with the Prime Minister to reply a day later.

For several days, then, Parliament will be meeting regularly to discuss the financial estimates of each ministry.

The Malta Independent will be presenting a minute-by-minute account of the minister's speech as it is being presented.
