Seven years after the murder of Lassana Cisse, murder accused Lorin Scicluna visited the crime scene on Wednesday alongside the judge and jurors presiding over his trial.

Cisse, a 42-year-old father of two from the Ivory Coast, was shot dead on April 6, 2019, while walking home between Birżebbuġa and Ħal Far. He died at the scene after being shot three times, including once in the back of the head.

Scicluna, a former Armed Forces of Malta soldier, was arrested in May 2019. He and co-accused ex-soldier Francesco Fenech face charges involving four Black victims. Fenech will be tried separately.

Scicluna faces nine charges, including Cisse's murder, the attempted murder of Ibrahim Bah and Mohammed Jallow during the same shooting, and the attempted murder of May Malimi, who was struck by a vehicle two months earlier.

Prosecutors allege that Scicluna and Fenech removed the licence plates from Scicluna's white Toyota Starlet at a Paola garage before driving out with a firearm to target Black individuals. Investigators originally identified the getaway car from CCTV and speed camera footage showing distinct vehicle modifications.

Wednesday's court-supervised site visit took the jury to the murder scene, the Paola garage, and the Ta' Kandja police compound to view Scicluna's impounded vehicle. Such site visits serve to contextualise physical evidence and witness testimonies for the jury.
