Statistician Vince Marmara has published the conclusions of a report drawn up by retired judge Geoffrey Valenzia, who found no "factual basis" to justify an investigation into alleged breaches of professional ethics following accusations made by Prof. Arnold Cassola.
In a statement published on social media, Marmara said he was making the full conclusions of the report public, following an earlier confirmation by the competent authorities that no laws had been breached in the professional work carried out by his company.
The report by Valenzia examined accusations made by Cassola against Marmara, including a request for the University of Malta to investigate him over alleged breaches of professional ethics. This morning, Momentum party, led by Cassola, published the 22 questions asked in a survey commissioned by the uncle of Yorgen Fenech, who was acquitted on conspiracy and complicity charges related to the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
According to Marmara, the retired judge concluded that there was no factual basis to warrant such an investigation and that the accusations levelled against him were not supported by facts or evidence.
Marmara also said that Valenzia criticised what he described as serious and offensive personal allegations made against him. The retired judge reportedly argued that the least Cassola should do was withdraw the offending statements and apologise for the damage caused, using the same channels through which the accusations had been made.
Marmara said the conclusions reinforced the position he had maintained from the outset: that the accusations against him were unfounded and that the personal attacks had no factual justification.
"Professional work should always be judged on facts and evidence, not on allegations and personal attacks," he said.
