KM Malta Airlines will introduce a new direct flight service between Malta and Bordeaux, France, from 1 April 2027, with flights operating twice a week as part of the airline's expanded European network for the summer season.
In a statement on Thursday, the airline said the new route will operate every Monday and Thursday, offering passengers a direct connection between Malta and Bordeaux, as well as the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France.
Flights will be operated using the airline's Airbus A320neo aircraft, which offer improved fuel efficiency and a lower noise footprint compared to previous-generation aircraft, the statement said.
According to the flight schedule, Monday's flight KM440 will depart Malta at 6.35pm and arrive in Bordeaux at 9.15pm, while the return flight KM441 will leave Bordeaux at 10.05pm and arrive in Malta at 12.35am the following day.
On Thursdays, flight KM440 will depart Malta at 6.45am and arrive in Bordeaux at 9.25am, while the return flight KM441 will leave Bordeaux at 10.15am and arrive in Malta at 12.45pm.
All flight times are local, and the schedule remains subject to change, the airline said.
Bordeaux is known for its historic architecture, cultural attractions, wine-producing region and gastronomy, while also serving as a starting point for visitors wishing to explore the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
KM Malta Airlines chairman David Curmi said the introduction of Bordeaux to the airline's summer 2027 network represented another step towards strengthening connectivity between Malta and France.
"The introduction of Bordeaux to our Summer 2027 network marks another step in strengthening KM Malta Airlines' connectivity with France. This new service will offer greater choice and convenience for passengers travelling in both directions, making it easier for our customers to explore Bordeaux and for French visitors to discover Malta's rich history, culture and Mediterranean character," Curmi said.
"We look forward to welcoming passengers on board and continuing to expand our network in line with our commitment to connecting Malta with key European destinations."
Meanwhile, Simon Dreschel, chairman of the Management Board of Bordeaux Airport, welcomed the introduction of the new route, saying it would contribute towards diversifying the airport's services.
"The arrival of KM Malta Airlines in Bordeaux is a positive sign for our goal of diversifying the range of services available from Bordeaux. We are pleased to welcome this new carrier among our partner airlines," Dreschel said.
"Malta holds genuine interest for sectors based in the Bordeaux region, so having a direct link - especially with a dynamic airline that operates a modern fleet - is significant. This new route will therefore enhance opportunities for both business and cultural tourism departing from Bordeaux."
The airline said flights will be available for booking through its website and mobile application, as well as through travel agents and other authorised sales channels.
