The council said smoking and second-hand smoke pose serious public health risks, not least to workers in establishments where smoking will still be allowed. The KSU also condemned the Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprise (GRTU) for using bullying tactics to impose its will, totally disregarding the health of the public.
The council thus called on the government to reverse the decision to delay the introduction of the anti-smoking law.
The KSU also congratulated the The Malta Medical Students’ Association for its initiative in organising the first university student smoke-free party. The KSU hopes that this will help start a new trend among students that will ultimately contribute to a healthier society.
The party, aptly named AIR, will be held on Wednesday at the Castille Wine Vaults in Valletta.
