Best media moments
The release two young Italian girls and the two Frenchmen who were released by their Iraqi captors. No Brits or Americans were as lucky, sadly.
Best and worst music media moment, depending on your point of view
This for lovers of rap… how many of these read a newspaper, I wonder?
When Dr Dre was punched in the face twice by a rap hater at the Vibe awards, and then another young La rapper stabbed the attacker. Has life turned into a playstation I wonder?
Most embarrassing media moment
Elton John caught in his
middle-aged housewife blue tracksuit, swearing at journalists and calling them all filthy expletives. I suppose growing old gracefully is not for him?
Best media moment for Dr Gonzi
This must be Dr Sant snatching that Lm2 note from Dr Gonzi’s hand while the latter was trying to show us the effects of devaluation of the lira on our lives.
Worst media moment for Dr Sant
Harry Vassallo lost his cool for once and said, in Dr Sant’s
presence no less, that only the presence of Dr Sant gives Dr. Gonzi the chance of a second term.
Best media moment for Tony Blair
Being told by his long term foe, our friend Gaddafi: “You look good. You are still young.”
Tony visibly winced, as he did in front of the tomb of Yasser Arafat, the man who claimed to be living a simple life, yet who managed to stash away millions upon millions.
Tony Blair’s worst media moment concerned the weapons that were never found in Iraq.
“I was very confident that we would find them. I have to accept we may not find them.”
Worst media moment for Janet Jackson
This must be the boob exposure that went so badly wrong. Somehow, when Madonna says or does something outrageous – like kissing another woman – she gets the right amount of ooohhh, while Janet only succeeding in getting a lot of ugh!
Worst disaster as reported in the media
In March there were demonstrations in over 300 cities world-wide to protest against the war in Iraq. Somehow there was a hollowness and too much political correctness in those demos. Then 10 bombs exploded in less than 15 minutes in Madrid, with almost 200 dead or injured and – wait for it – a quarter of Spain demonstrated. Watching it, you could feel the difference between genuine sorrow, and middle-class politically correct posturing, which is what a lot of current anti-Bush and anti-Blair sentiment is all about.
Saddest media images
We have to go to Beslan in Russia and remember hundreds of dead, semi-burnt children in black plastic bags. Those who think Bush is a bigger problem than international terrorism should really look again.
Saddest media moment for couch potatoes
Those TV staples Friends and Frasier left our screens except for re-runs.
Most ridiculous media moments
These always come from the UK.
The departure of top Minister Blunkett for fast tracking a visa application. Just imagine those standards locally. That’s why we vote in such droves for our politicians, precisely so they can give us a hand up!
And a brain surgeon suspended from the NHS for having an extra bowl of soup from the
hospital cafeteria.
Most shocking media moment
The transformation of the Ukrainian leader’s face, from handsome to horrific, which apparently could be the result of poisoning from Russia.
Most crass media moment
The editor of The Daily Mirror rightly sacked after publicising what turned out to be faked photographs, showing British
soldiers mistreating Iraqis.
And best media moments for sex and love which really keep the world going round
Britney Spears, tho one who said “I’ll never have sex before marriage”, married twice in a year. Jenny Lopez, who gave women with a behind a chance to flaunt it, and Ben Affleck thankfully split up, Posh Spice refused to publicly believe – with all the evidence – that her husband could have been unfaithful (she has many clones) and George and Alex Best (the former who’s drunk here in more ways than one) finally divorced.
Best quote in the media
Brigitte Bardot, being asked what was the best day of her life, replying: “It was a night!”
