(13-8) (15-17) (14-9) (15-5)

Floriana made it three league wins in a row and now have a game over the same Suns who recovered Kenneth Genovese, after missing the last two games.

Floriana could only take a lead in the latter moments of the first session, with a small 6-0 run. Suns jumped in front with an Albert Borg trey at the start of the second session, but the Greens replied swiftly, with a 7-0 run, and then held on to their lead till the end of the quarter, to enjoy a 28-25 half time lead.

After the break Suns’ treys nearly tied the game, but Floriana came through again with an 8-0 break and they held on to a bigger lead till the end of the session, on a 42-34 score.

Suns then fell completely away in the last quarter, despite a Robert Camilleri trey, but Michel Curmi had already done enough damage to the Suns rearguard. Adrian Baldacchino’s free shots did the rest, and Floriana strolled through to a comfortable win.

Floriana: 15 Michel Curmi, 13 Adrain Baldacchino

Suns: 8 Mark Schembri

Referees: Alfred Carbonaro, Clive Terrible

Qormi Kia 74

Mosta 60

(15-12) (21-20) (15-12) (23-16)

Qormi are still unbeaten in the league, thanks to their fifth straight win. Nello Xuereb made his debut for them, after leading Floriana, and the Armenian, Sassoon Soakian, played for Mosta, after the new foreigners’ ruling.

It was Mosta who held the early lead but Qormi had the better ending to the session, to go in front.

In the second session the two teams stayed close to each other, with Mosta managing to take the lead twice midway through, and Oliver Sammut netting his treys.

A Qormi spurt at the end once again pushed them in front and at the halfway stage it was a 36-32 match.

After the interval Mosta came close again several times but Qormi always managed to preserve their lead so that, after three sessions they were enjoying a 57-44 advantage.

The final quarter saw Mosta’s efforts at the start bearing no fruit, and as time passed by, their resistance faded and Qormi made a 10-0 break to settle matters.

The last moments were balanced but the damage had been done, and Qormi enhanced their top position.

Qormi: 16 Keith Scicluna, 12 Jean Falzon

Mosta: 16 Oliver Sammut, 14 Sassoon Soakian.
