I would like to join forces with Nature Trust (Malta) and the Federation of Industry in welcoming the concept of collecting a contribution on plastic bags.

The time is ripe to start tackling such environmental issues. Our country deserves such polluter-pays-principle initiatives and should be backed by everyone whose interest is to reduce health hazards, which are also cancer-causing agents, and make way for a better living for us and our future generations.

I believe that the drastic increase in the use of normal plastic and garbage bags should change and all stakeholders should be encouraged to find alternatives such as cloth bags and biodegradable bags, which all in all have been exempted from such contribution.

Well done government – such measures are laudable and are supported by all those concerned.
