Employees and directors of

First Insurance Brokers Limited together with their families and children took part in a tree

planting exercise at Ghadira following the company’s decision to donate a substantial sum to purchase and maintain a number of trees as part of the Foresta 2000 project.

Foresta 2000, which is run by Bird Life Malta together with Din l-Art Helwa with the support of the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, aims to reforest the area around the Ghadira Nature Reserve.

“Foresta 2000 is an exciting project that will not only increase the area of forested land in Malta but will serve as an oasis for wildlife which the public can enjoy. Farming and development in the Ghadira area has had a seriously negative impact on the natural environment and this project is turning this around. First Insurance Brokers want to play an active role in this project and we must thank all those employees who came to help with the tree planting,” said First Insurance Brokers’ chairman, Mr Austin Walker.

The commitment to Foresta 2000 from First Insurance Brokers Limited will be extended throughout the coming years. A specific area has in fact been set aside by the project managers for the company to continue planting tress in the future.

“First Insurance Brokers' board of directors feels strongly that everyone should play a part in improving Malta’s environment. We cannot expect NGOs to do all the work and we hope that this event will help to increase the public’s sense of responsibility towards the development and cultivation of the area and encourage other private enterprises to also play their part,” said First Insurance Brokers' managing director, Salvino Mifsud Bonnici.
