It Was different then

From Mrs A. Chetcuti Bonavita

I refer to Daphne Caruana Galizia’s article titled “The Doll’s House in 2005” (TMIS, 30 January). Yes, I agree but back then, in the 1960s/1970s/1980s, some, or most of the women wanted, wished and chose to get married, have a family and bring up children. We were brought up to think that way and so were the men.

Personally I did it with love, affection and a lot of dedication, and naturally sometimes with anger, fear and tears but laughter too. After all these years, although we have been through thick and thin (who hasn’t?) we have made it so far, to the best of our ability.

One piece of advice I would give a young woman today: By all means, make a life of your own, for example, career, job and own income but if you have a family try to make that your top priority. Somehow, somewhere work at it all round. It’s a lot of hard work especially emotionally.

PS Homemakers should be given a degree too. MRCHM – Member of the Royal College of Housewives and Mothers.

Believe me it takes a lifetime of hard work, sacrifice and fun to achieve and it’s free of charge.
