Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 February 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

For the fifth consecutive year, Bank of Valletta is the main sponsor of the Transplants Support Group.

BOV’s head of public relations Michael Galea, presented the sponsorship to Alfred Debattista, President and founder of the Transplant Support Group.

Presenting the sponsorship Mr Galea said, “BOV supports the most worthy contribution towards society being made by the Transplant Support Group. The Bank recognised the most important social role of this organisation when it was approached for support upon its inception five years ago.

“Our contribution towards the group and the most valid work it is performing within the Maltese community continues to consolidate Bank of Valletta’s commitment to play an active role within the society in which it operates.”

“We are confident that BOVs financial support will continue to help in the efforts of the Transplant Support Group to provide assistance to those who undergo organ transplant operations and to their families,” continued Mr Galea.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its ongoing support, Mr Debattista also said that the group seeks to bring together both transplantees and those awaiting a transplant.

“The Group seeks to offer support to those who are about to undergo a transplant and also seek to keep a regular contact with the relatives of dead donors and ensure that their memories are honoured,” said Mr Debattista.

“We also concentrate our efforts on outlining the concept of organ donation and the importance of having registered organ donors,” continued Mr Debattista.

“Various campaigns are held throughout the year to encourage individuals to fill in a registration form and we immediately supply them with a donor card. To date, the number of registered donors is in the region of 50,000,” he concluded.
