Your correspondent, Mr Victor Spiteri of Attard (TMID 14 February), thought fit to comment on my piece (TMID 22 January), under the heading “Where is the silver lining?”

He took more than 500 words to make his case and he had no opinion or comment on the merits of what I had to say but focused instead on what I did not write about nine years ago on various issues, most of which had no relation to the subject matter!

I have no wish to personalise matters, much less to debate on the respective beams in my or Mr Spiteri’s eyes. But is it not high time that the readers of The Malta Independent be treated with more respect by uplifting the quality of certain comments from the ridiculous to the sublime?
