Alex Soler won his first major honour with merit, when at the University Gym he succeeded in beating Malta’s top two ranked players, Mario Genovese and Edward Baldacchino, in the third Grand Prix of the season.

In the other group top seed Edward Baldacchino had to fight hard to finish on top after losing to the excellent Mario Dimech. Edward made a superb comeback by beating the strong Yugoslav player Sasha Organovic by 11-8, 11-7.

The final between Edward Baldacchino and Alex Soler proved to be one of the best matches of the season, both players adopting an offensive game, a very close match as the result indicates with Alex’s top-spins being perfectly timed.

Final result: Alex Soler beat Edward Baldacchino 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9.
