Common Denominator

I reply to The ‘fine with me, don’t care about Jack’ mentality! by Angelo Micallef (TMID, 30 March).

Angelo Micallef stated that Moviment Graffitti will never cease to amaze him. Well, that’s something I regard as positive because Angelo Micallef has long ceased to amaze me. I’ve grown immune to his constant droning and churning out of banalities. Angelo wrote about the victims in Beslan, in his beloved United States of America and in Madrid. If one were to look into the matter, one would find a common denominator in the Washington and Madrid attacks.

Both countries opted to meddle and rear their heads in other countries’ affairs under the pretence of promoting democracy. I am not saying they deserved what they got – God no – but neither country can say that they were not expecting and, to some extent, indirectly inviting such attacks.

The Beslan siege example is even more childish and barrel-scraping. How can a country such as Malta expect to ever be involved in a civil conflict which is occurring in Russia? My heart goes out to all those involved, sure, but even with all our best intentions, we can never hope to minimally affect that conflict, or any other conflict of its kind.
