140th Anniversary of the Queen Victoria Band Club, Zurrieq

Malta Independent Friday, 8 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

I wish some space to express my gratitude to the Queen Victoria Band Club and the Order of the Carmelite Society for the wonderful evening of sacred music they presented to all those present at the sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Valletta on 17 March.

The choice of music was very rich, and we were treated to a selection of both foreign and local music. The band, under the very fluent and accurate baton of Mro Alfred Farrugia, reached a very high standard – although composed of mainly local musicians, and the interpretation of the Maltese singers: Soprano Joan Mangion, Contralto Marie Therese Vassallo, Tenor Joseph Aquilina and Baritone Alfred Camilleri was, I must say, was impeccable.

The evening also helped the audience prepare themselves spiritually for the following Good Friday events.

I hope that in the future we will be able to keep assisting such wonderful and unique evenings. Well done, and I wish all those involved great success in the future.
